About Us

Barrington Youth Baseball and Softball (BYB&S) is committed to teach the game in a fun, competitive and instructional atmosphere. We are focused on improving the ability of every player while enhancing the experience for every family. Our efforts create a passion for the game that will last a lifetime. Players ages 5 to 16 have the opportunity to participate in baseball and softball in a variety of levels.

House Baseball & Softball

Registration begins online (www.bybs.net) in January. At some levels, players are asked to attend an Evaluation Day in February. Teams are formed in mid to late March and practices begin in early April. The house season ends in mid to late June. All division stress instruction and fun while ensuring equal participation.

T Ball (Kindergarten and Pre-K)

A perfect way to introduce your child to the fundamentals of the game. Boys and girls learn the foundation skills of the sport that prepare them for baseball and softball. Players are coached by volunteer parents and hit from a Tee throughout the season. The emphasis is on fun, instruction and equal participation. Late in the season, managers are given the option to introduce coach pitch to players who are ready to hit in this fashion. Teams participate in an 18 game instructional season in addition to practices scheduled by managers. Rosters and team assignments are structured around the schools. Most games are played at Langendorf Park and Lines School. There are no standings or playoffs at this level just great instruction and plenty of fun.

House Baseball

Rookies (1st Grade)

Managers and coaches do all of the pitching at this level. Players are introduced to the skills necessary to play baseball. Volunteer parent managers and coaches teach the game through an 18 game schedule. Teams are encouraged to practice once per week. Rosters are created around the individual schools. Most games are played at Langendorf Park, Station Middle School and Field of Dreams. There are no standings or playoffs at this level.

A League (2nd Grade)

Players are introduced to pitching at this level. Each game has a portion of player pitch innings complimented by coach pitch the rest of the game. The goal is to teach these players how to pitch without slowing down the game for all other participants. There are no walks at this level. After ball four is thrown by a player, a coach enters the game to pitch to the hitter. Volunteer parent managers and coaches teach the game through a 20 game schedule. Teams are encouraged to practice once per week. Rosters are created around the individual schools and there are no standings or playoffs.

AA League (3rd Grade)

Players do all of the pitching in this division and are also introduced to stealing bases. Volunteer parent managers and coaches teach the game through a 20 game schedule. Teams are encouraged to practice once per week. Games are played at Field of Dreams, Langendorf Park and Deer Park. Players attend an Evaluation Day in February and teams are created by volunteer managers drafting players in an effort to create parity. There are no regular season standings however these teams will participate in a post season tournament to determine the AA Champs.

AAA League (4th Grade)

Players begin to play major league style baseball with players pitching and stealing bases. Volunteer parent managers and coaches teach the game through an 18-20 game schedule. Teams are encouraged to practice once per week. Games are played at Field of Dreams, Langendorf Park, South Barrington and Deer Park. Players attend an Evaluation Day in February and teams are created by volunteer managers drafting players in an effort to create parity. There are no regular season standings, however these teams will participate in a post season tournament to determine the AAA Champs.

Majors (5th & 6th Grade)

Volunteer parent managers and coaches teach the game through an 18 to 20 game schedule. Teams are encouraged to practice once per week. Games are played at Field of Dreams, Langendorf Park and South Barrington. Players attend an Evaluation Day in February and teams are created by volunteer managers drafting players in an effort to create parity. There are no regular season standings however these teams will participate in a post season tournament to determine the Majors Champs.

Pony (7th & 8th Grade)

Teams, managed by volunteer parents, are created by a draft based on previous season's evaluations to create balanced teams. Players compete in an 18 to 20 game schedule that culminates with a playoff to determine the Pony Champs. Games are played at Beese Park and South Barrington. Pony is an exclusive wood bat division.

Colt (15-17 year olds)

The Colt program begins later in the spring than the rest of the house divisions. Teams are formed in early May and compete in an 18 to 20 game schedule followed by playoffs, with games played in Barrington and Palatine through mid July. The Colt division is an excellent way to continue playing the game while in high school.

House Softball

Juniors (1st & 2nd Grade)

Team rosters are built around the elementary schools as girls are introduced to the fundamentals of softball. Volunteer parent managers guide their teams through an 18 game schedule. Coaches do the majority of the pitching at this level to keep all players engaged in a fun and fast paced environment. There are no standings or playoffs at this level. Games are played at Lines School, Langendorf Park and Field of Dreams.

Minors (3rd & 4th Grade)

Players are assigned to teams that are built around the elementary schools and are introduced to pitching at this level as games include both player and coach pitch innings. There are no walks at this division so players learn how to hit and all teammates are engaged in the fast paced action. There are no regular season standings during the 18 to 20 game schedule. Teams compete in a post season playoff to determine the Minors division champs.

Majors (5th & 6th Grade)

Players begin to play traditional fast pitch softball at this level, doing all of the pitching and learning to steal bases. Players attend an evaluation day in February and are placed on rosters by a draft run by volunteer managers. Teams compete in an 18 to 20 game schedule. There are no regular season standings and teams compete in a year end playoff to determine the Majors Champs.

Seniors (7th & 8th Grade)

Teams compete against other Barrington teams as well as teams from Cary. Players attend a February Evaluation Day and are drafted by volunteer Managers to teams that participate in an 18 to 20 game schedule and a post season playoff. Games are played at Field of Dreams, Langendorf Park and Cary.

Travel

Full Time Travel Baseball

Barrington Travel Baseball is an age based program for players 11 through 14 (5th - 8th grades). Tryouts are held in August. Players practice 1-2 times per week during the off season (January - March), and play 3-5 games per week with a practice during the regular season (April - July). Depending on the age group, teams can play between 40 to 75 games. Each Barrington travel team competes in a regional league and plays a regular season schedule building towards a playoff and League Championship. Travel Teams also compete in a number of in season area tournaments.

Full Time Travel Softball

Barrington Travel Softball is an age based program for players 10 through 14 (5th - 8th grades). Our goal is to continue the development of all qualified players through extensive training with experienced coaches and outside resources. Travel teams work with the high school program and provide the most up to date training programs around. Players practice 1-2 times per week during the off season (January - March), and play 3-5 games per week with a practice during the regular season (April - July). Depending on the age group, teams can play between 40 to 55 games.

Mustangs

BYB&S Travel baseball and softball will include a new program called Mustangs. The new offering is for 2009 4th and 5th grade Boys, and u10 and u12 Girl's divisions. Players will tryout in January or February for a team(s) that will begin practice in March, and then weekly throughout the house season. These Mustang players will also play in the House Division with their other classmates. The Mustang players will have a weekly practice, many with a PBI professional training component. This weekly practice will be on a day in which the house league does not have any games scheduled. The Mustangs plan to participate in a Memorial Day Weekend tournament. After the holiday tournament, the Mustangs will continue their weekly practices and once the house playoffs are complete, the Mustangs will play a 4 to 5 week tournament schedule. The Mustangs will also have an opportunity to schedule mid week games against other travel teams in between tournaments. A Mustang player will be participating in a schedule of an estimated 45 games between their house and travel teams combined. These players will need to commit to an aggressive schedule from March through the end of July. These teams are managed by parent volunteers. This program includes some professional instruction and a high level of competition for those players qualified and interested, while still providing the opportunity to play with and against all classmates.

All Stars

The All Star program is for advanced house league players (boys u8-u14 and girls u10, u12 & u14) who tryout for teams that represent their grade level. Teams begin to practice when the house season has concluded. The All Star season is played throughout the month of July with practices and some games during the week and a tournament each weekend. Teams are managed by parent volunteers and tryouts are held in late April or early May. The All Star environment should provide a fun experience with advanced instruction. This is a great opportunity to play with and against players at a similar advanced skill level.
