The 2026 softball season is going to start with a change that has been swirling for a few years.
In 2023 USA Softball announced they were revising the age cutoff dates for the 2024 season. Only about 25% of communities and clubs made the change to follow USA softball, BYBS did not change our age cutoffs to follow USA Softball. The last few years we have played in a hybrid environment.
For the 2026 Softball season USSSA has revised the age cutoff dates to match USA Softball. Though not affiliated, BYBS has always aligned the program to follow USSSA guidelines and rules. For the 2026 softball season BYBS will be revising the cutoff dates .
We believe most or all communities and clubs will be following the updated age cutoff dates in order to be eligible for all NAFA, USSSA and PGF events. There logic behind the change as the intent is to align grades more closely together; 12U is 7th grade, 10U is 5th grade, etc. It won't be perfect but much more grade consistent than teams today.
Eligible for two age groups?
Our website only lets you sign up for one tryout level.
As an example if you are signing up for 14U, but still eligible for 12U you need to tryout at both levels to be considered for both teams. You need to attend the first tryout and then stay and walkup for the second tryout. The scoring levels are reset for each age level so having scores align to both age levels is important in the overall evaluation.
